If you are a beginner then this guide is made just for you. It contains handy tips and tricks on how to get into Stronghold gameplay by teaching you a thing or two.
Getting Started
Unfortunately as and usereagleprince have already mentioned, it's not possible to play Stronghold 2 Multiplayer via LAN. This is likely due to changes in support for Stronghold 2 Multiplayer as Mathew also pointed out and at this present moment in time it's also not possible to edit the game/modify it in order to add this feature in - this information is compiled inside the.exe (I assume.
First of all, the game wants you to place your stockpile. If there is an iron ore available in your estate, make sure to place it as close as possible to the iron ore. Be adviced however! The game becomes unpaused (unless you're playing on-line) as soon as you place that stockpile, so make sure to press the pause button (default 'P') to pause the game again.
Well done! Now you need to place your granary. It is unnecessary to follow any rule here, just use your common sense -> placing it close to the estate borders (enemies) = granary destroyed. Place it anywhere you want to set up your food production area.
You can place up to three stockpiles in one estate and I recommend you doing so. If necessary, using the Leap Frogging method, place another stockpile as close as possible to the stone ore and then, finally, place another stockpile as close as possible to the nearest forest.
Alternatively, you can start by placing one stockpile near the forest and then following stone ore and iron ore. The game places your starter resources into the first placed stockpile, this means that efficiency of the iron delivery could be compromised later in the game. Small things matter you might think, but the game ends quite often even before you manage to set up a well organized and stable castle.
Make sure to send your units to the point where you expect NPC to attack you or just build a wall to block their way. Blocking its' way will save you your units and the NPC will ignore you for a while.
Gaining Peasants
In order to obtain theoretically unlimited amount of peasants without having to build them a hovel, you need to build barracks.
How does this work? The castle generates you 8 peasants, the same amount as the hovel does. Peasants count as a physical citizens unlike the recruits. This means that once you've recruited one peasant, you will gain another peasant as a compensation for that missing one. This strategy is very efficient, because the population limit on most maps is 104 peasants. Be adviced however! Once you extend the limit of your castle population, no more peasants will spawn until the population is lower than the limit.
Once you've placed the barracks somewhere, unpause the game and recruit the armed peasants. Each one will cost you 5 gold and you can obtain as many as you want, unless you run out of money of course.
I decided to recruit 80 armed peasants, but going over 100 is recommended. Ideal number might be around 150-200. 200 armed peasants will cost you 1000 gold. This isn't bad at all.

Game Review
Stronghold is a real-time strategy game developed by Stormfront Studios and published by Strategic Simulations Inc. in 1993. This game is set in the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy universe and uses a bare bones version of the rules of the original tabletop role playing game.
Starting out you only have command of a small village that you must turn into a stronghold (hence the name). You build your village up and add and upgrade different buildings and ‘neighborhoods'. You can also recruit and train units comprised of different classes of fantasy folk. You can then send your units out into the world to fight monsters or gather resources. There are a few different ways to play and ultimately ‘win' this game, it just depends on your play style. If you want to pursue the ‘Lawful' path you can focus on building up your city and advance to the rank of Emperor. Should you choose the ‘Chaotic' path your ultimate goal is to destroy all of your enemies. There is also door number 3 where you can choose to be ‘Neutral' and do both. How you play and manage your game is up to you, right down to the ability to micromanage to your heart's content. Though if you would rather not, the computer can take care of it for you. No matter which road you choose, it will be a challenging one.
Clearly D&D fans are the first to come to mind for this game, but I think it would be appealing to anyone who likes strategy games. Can you gift minecraft to someone. This game offers a good level of difficulty and different play style options. Whether you are a fan of D&D or not, Stronghold offers an excellent combination of gaming elements and will keep you immersed for hours.
