DOOM (initially referred to as DOOM 4) is a 2016 first-person shooter developed by id Software, published by Bethesda Softworks, and released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch . It is the fourth major installment in the Doom series.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Plot[edit | edit source]

Development[edit | edit source]

Originally announced in 2008 as DOOM 4, to be released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It was announced to take place on Earth, with gameplay more akin to the original DOOM titles for DOS. In 2009, id Software's CEO announced the game was in 'deep development', stating that the game is neither a sequel nor a prequel.

This rendition of the game was last mentioned in 2011, with John Carmack announcing DOOM would use a sub-set of C++ called 'super-script'. The game's development was restarted in 2011, with development later going quiet after the studio was dissatisfied with the quality of the game. Later, Bethesda further confirmed the existence of DOOM 4 with a new trailer at E3 2014. The game was later re-revealed on June 14, 2015 during Bethesda's E3 conference.
